Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR
I am an international dispute resolution lawyer based in Hong Kong with experience across international arbitration, commercial litigation and mediation. I am admitted in Hong Kong, England & Wales, New York and New Zealand, and have worked across London, New York and Hong Kong, advising clients on complex cross-border disputes. Over the past decade (since first qualifying in New Zealand in 2013), I have worked on commercial and investment treaty arbitrations under major institutional rules, as well as related court proceedings. My experience spans disputes involving banking, energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, real estate and insolvency. Earlier in my career, I worked at Three Crowns LLP in London, a leading international arbitration boutique. Alongside arbitration, my practice has also included commercial litigation and banking disputes, including managing portfolios of financial litigation matters for regional banks. I have a particular interest in the intersection between technology and dispute resolution. I previously served on the Board of the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center (SVAMC) and contributed to the SVAMC Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Arbitration. I am also the Hong Kong Ambassador for the Blockchain Lawyers Forum. In addition to arbitration, I am an International Mediation Institute-qualified mediator and the first person based in Asia accredited as an Elder Mediator (Advanced) by the Elder Mediation International Network (EMIN). I have been recognised as a Global Elite Thought Leader by Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal) and included in the Legal 500 Asia Arbitration Power List. I currently serve as a Board Member of Pro Bono Hong Kong and Co-Chair of YaleWomen Hong Kong. I previously served on the Board of ArbitralWomen, where I founded the ArbitralWomen Connect programme, nominated for a Global Arbitration Review Diversity Award. In Hong Kong, I convene YWHK+Friends, a community of more than 900 members and host small-group discussions across law, finance, technology, academia, arts and other topics.

Whatever the issue, we act as a bridge between companies and businesses throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, Asia and the rest of the world.

Member of Allen & Overy's Asia-Pacific Arbitration Group, based in Hong Kong. Relevant experience: - Advising two international oil & gas companies on a dispute with certain U.S. entities that has arisen out of a USD800m settlement with a Southeast Asian-state owned national oil company that we secured for our clients in a separate related dispute. Under that settlement agreement, the U.S. entities’ interests in a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) were transferred to the Southeast Asian State-owned national oil company. The U.S. entities commenced arbitration proceedings on the basis that the settlement transfer did not sufficiently protect their rights.
I work on international commercial and investment treaty arbitration matters. My representative matters include: • Representing a Middle Eastern government in an ICC arbitration, seated in Geneva, relating to a dispute arising out of an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement. • Represented the Sultanate of Oman in an ICSID treaty claim brought against it in a dispute relating to a US$850 million oil and gas engineering and construction contract. • Represented an oil and gas major in an UNCITRAL investment treaty dispute against a Southeast Asian State arising from the imposition of a tax assessment resulting from the transfer of businesses in that Southeast Asian State. • Represented a Korean manufacturing company in an ICC arbitration, seated in Singapore, concerning a dispute arising from a series of distributorship agreements with its distributor in Korea, in which our client prevailed in significant part on its counterclaims and obtained a multi-million dollar award. Regarding pro bono work, I also assisted with the preparation of a report of the United Nations Human Rights Council Advisory Committee on “Current Levels of Representation of Women in Human Rights Organs and Mechanisms: Ensuring Gender Balance”, in conjunction with REDRESS, a leading human rights organisation, and GQUAL, a global campaign body that works to overcome the under-representation of women in international tribunals and monitoring bodies (distributed on 21 May 2021)
