Maintaining my role as welfare officer, this year my position has expanded to include the role of political advisor as well. This role is uniquely catered to my set of expertise in events planning, model UN operations, networking, political research, and debate training. As a Political Advisor, I participate in the decision-making process alongside the President and Vice-President, and offer my guidance in matters regarding both Model UN and events planning. Beyond overseeing tasks, I am also allocated certain projects and help upkeep external communications. I am also still the designated Welfare Officer, making me the first point of contact for any members or officers in need of welfare assistance, and in charge of facilitating any needed conflict-resolution within the society.
As the designated Welfare Officer of the society, I am the first point of contact for any members or officers in need of welfare assistance, and in charge of facilitating any needed conflict-resolution within the society. This role allows for flexibility, as such I was able to assist in event organisation, model UN training, group leadership, and participate in any other tasks that needed a helping hand.
I volunteer a couple hours a week, depending on my availability, at this branch of the British Heart Foundation. It is one of the biggest charity shop chain in the UK, selling donated clothes and items to fund life-saving research on heart-related diseases. As a volunteer I tend to run the shop floor during my shifts. This includes handling tills, maintaining customer relations, accepting donations, keeping tidy, and monitoring ongoing activity, etc.
