Madison, Wisconsin, United States
Currently, I am a freshman at Reed College in Portland, OR, studying biochemistry and molecular biology. During high school in my hometown of Madison, WI, I had the opportunity to be a Youth Apprentice at the Hernandez Lab at the UW-Madison Animal and Dairy Sciences Department, where I worked as a lab assistant and took on relevant courses such as Biotechnology 1 and 2, AP Chem, AP Bio, and Anatomy. I had the pleasure of working on a wide range of projects related to lactation in dairy cattle. These experiences have led me to a passion for biotechnology, research, and innovation that can improve our world and lives.
During my SEEDS Internship, I got to vet books for the Story Like Mine Program at SMART. This included reading books and evaluating their inclusiveness and usefulness for kids seeking representative books.
I work at the Hernandez lab as part of a biotech Youth Apprenticeship through the Dane County Schools Consortium. I have had the opportunity to assist grad students in laction physiology research.
