Under Microbial Immunity Lab at A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs, our research focuses on the immune responses of arboviruses, such as Chikungunya and Dengue virus. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we also collaborated with hospitals on multiple clinical studies. My role is to support the scientists in driving the research to guide the development of targeted and effective control and treatment strategies. ➢ Conducting experiments for research and industrial projects. ➢ Processing clinical samples and maintaining samples inventories. ➢ Fulfilling administrative duties such as lab housekeeping/duties, and sample transfers
NCID aims to strengthen Singapore’s capabilities in infectious disease management and prevention through clinical services, public health, research, training and education, and community engagement. With Antimicrobial Resistance / Healthcare-Associated Infections (AMR & HAIs) as one of the five priority areas of infectious diseases research identified in Singapore, my role was to support the clinicians of AMR & HAIs studies by facilitating study matters while ensuring proper conduct and implementation of all research activities. ➢ Managed multiple infectious disease clinical research projects concurrently and performed clinical research activities according to the study protocol. ➢ Liaised with multiple internal and external parties for day-to-day operations to ensure smooth research operations and handled unexpected situations. ➢ Supported the principal investigator with administrative documentation, logistics planning and data analysis. ➢ Conducted scoping review of environmental cleaning methods in healthcare settings from published guidelines and articles which facilitated $50,000 grant funding. ➢ Crafted scientific poster on environmental cleaning which was selected for e-poster presentation for the 10th International Congress of the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control 2022.
Molecular Lab is one of the pathology disciplines at Singapore General Hospital. It offers tests to detect infectious agents and to diagnose molecular markers of non-infectious diseases through molecular methods. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the lab performed daily COVID-19 diagnostic testing on samples sent from hospitals, polyclinics, dormitories, and private clinics/labs, on top of its routine testing. My role was to accurately conduct lab testing on clinical specimens, especially COVID-19 samples, and report the data needed for further diagnosis and treatment. ➢ Received clinical samples for requisition and communicated with respective wards/clinics for verification of information and rejection of samples. ➢ Processed and performed diagnostic testing on biological specimens according to standard operating procedure. ➢ Maintained daily operations and housekeeping to ensure smooth operation of the lab.
KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital provides tertiary services to women and children. Attached under the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the department specialised in musculoskeletal conditions and injuries in children, such as fractures and idiopathic scoliosis. My role in this internship was to support the department with its research activities. ➢ Managed multiple musculoskeletal clinical research projects concurrently. ➢ Liaised with collaborators and research subjects for the research projects. ➢ Collated relevant clinical research information from electronic medical records and hospital data. ➢ Independently sourced and summarised multiple airlines' guidelines on flying with fractures. ➢ Presented result findings and wrote a manuscript for article submission.
The Stem Cells and Diabetes Lab at A*STAR Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology focuses on diabetes disease mechanisms and therapies using human cell models such as human pluripotent stem cell-derived cells, human islets and human beta cells. My attachment project was to investigate the roles of 𝐺𝐿𝑈𝑇2 and 𝐺𝑃𝑅39 relating to diabetes in beta cell lines. ➢ Conducted molecular biology experiments and updated the research logbook timely. ➢ Fulfilling lab housekeeping/duties. ➢ Presented my research findings at the end of the attachment through presentation and report.
