Working on various 275/400kv substation upgrades for SP energy networks. Project value up to £5m.
Contract value up to £250k. Working on small sites to deliver various refurbishment of existing substation civil elements. Works range from install of new transformer bunds and switchgear foundations to retrofit bunds on existing transformer bases. Close liaison with the SPEN project managers and SAPs to meet construction requirements. Given a lot of the work is refurbishment of existing buildings the works are subject to a high degree of change and prolongation of the programme.
Contract value £60k-£150K. Each package was awarded with designs for installing new cycle facilities at Scotrail train stations throughout Scotland. Generally, 8-10 stations over an 8 week period would make up a package of work. Predominantly the locations were in and around the central belt but at times were as far as the central Highlands. With varying locations programming was key to ensure works were sufficiently finished before demobilising to begin the next site. Working in a rail environment brought about additional challenges in terms of access and equipment. Stringent planning had to undertaken to show the client that Luddon were able to work to the railway requirements. Delivering a quality product and establishing a good relationship with the client enabled Luddon to successfully be awarded 6 packages of work after the initial contract.
Initially working site wide on the Borders Railway £300m project, I was working as an assistant site engineer on the site investigation team. Responsible for subcontractor management of coring and CCTV specialists and detailed bridge surveys prior to railway construction. Working on a 30 mile site put a high focus on logistical planning to ensure effective use of resources and reduce loss time when moving to new locations of the site. Working to tight deadlines, accurate working was imperative as I was responsible for detailed level surveys of existing bridge and culvert structures to meet the design team's programme and requirements. June 2013 I starting working on the Structures team in the Borders Central section. Initially I was directly responsible for the site management of the masonry subcontractors working to restore the existing masonry structures throughout this 20km section of the project. Working to the client specifications, there was a high focus on quality workmanship to ensure effective construction. Quality assurance record keeping, management of change and as-built records were key skills developed during this phase of the project. In 2014, working as a site engineer, I gained more diverse roles being responsible for the setting out and supervision of multiple in-situ RC and precast structures. Again, the focus was on getting things right first time in order to reduce lost time to ensure the civils programme was delivered successfully prior to rail installation. Others areas of experience during this time were steel work bridge refurbishments (protective coatings), new culvert installation, Reco panel wingwall installation and retaining wall refurbishment.
Working as a graduate engineer on the this £5m project, I was responsible for assisting the site team in the Safe and effective delivery of the harbour upgrade. Gaining experience in setting out through use of total stations (Leica TS06) and automatic levels, I would assist site engineers in with construction of of the new concrete capping beams, concrete slabs and new roadworks upgrade.
