About

I’m Associate Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and coordinator of Intervention Ecology Lab, contributing to the Plant Biology and Conservation and Ecology Postgraduate Programs. I’ve completed my BS in Biology at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil with Honours in Ecology followed by a Master in Ecology, Conservation, and Management, focusing on the following subjects: monitoring plant phenology and seed germination in undisturbed areas of ironstone outcrops and in mining restoration area. I’ve concluded my PhD in the Plant Biology Program at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, working on monitoring the effects of forest restoration analyzed via plant functional groups, functional diversity, plant phenology, forest structure, canopy light interception, as well as focusing on a critical analysis of environmental law. During this time, I did a six-month PhD exchange at the University of Western Australia, in the Ecosystem Restoration & Intervention Ecology Research Group. In 2012, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Reference Center on Environmental Information (CRIA), working on the subjects: digital accessible knowledge, primary biodiversity data, inventory completeness, conservation status, and ecological niche modelling. I`ve worked at The Nature Conservancy’s Latin America region as a Restoration Specialist in the Atlantic Forest and Central Savanna´s Conservation Program, coordinating projects and monitoring restoration in the region of AFCS, as well as collaborating with the academic community. I was Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) from 2014 to 2016. From 2019-2024, elected as the representative of the Central-West Council of the SOBRE- Brazilian Society for Ecological Restoration. Laureate of the "For Women in Science" programme in 2021, awarded in the Life Sciences category, L'Oréal Brazil, in partnership with UNESCO in Brazil and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). In 2022, I was awarded as Featured Academic Scientific Research recognized by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level (CAPES). In 2024 received the commendation “Paulo Nogueira Neto” medal of the Biology Council. In 2025 received the Cultures of Resistance Awards and was appointed by the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), multiregional project. In 2026 received the CNPq Women and Science Award in the Life Sciences Incentive Category. Contact: [email protected]

The aim of CRIA is the dissemination of electronic information as a tool for the scientific and technological community. It disseminates biological information of environmental interest and through this, hopes to contribute directly to the conservation and sustainable use of Brazil's biological resources. A sustainable society is an informed society, where various different sectors produce and have access to high quality information as a basis for decision making.
