Greater Orlando
Fresh out of college, and full of ambition, I was eager to learn what made the weather tick. Dozens of tornadoes, countless summer storms and hundreds of hurricanes later, I have found my answer, or at least, I am in relentless pursuit of it. Weather forecasting is kind of like being in the Olympics: you train and you train, and you train some more, until you get your chance to go for the gold. For me, my Olympic moment came in 2004 when three hurricanes came through Orlando, Florida. Not in over a hundred years had this land-locked city seen three powerful hurricanes roll into town in one season. It was a defining moment in my career: when I called for Hurricane Charley to take a turn towards central Florida. A forecast the National Hurricane Center hadn't even made yet. I had never been so nervous, scared and excited, all at the same time. I dreamed of getting that one great moment, to go up against everything Mother Nature had to offer and to challenge what my training had taught me. When that moment finally arrived, I knew I had achieved a career best. So, years later, I am still in training, ready to go for the gold again. It`s why I got into this business in the first place and it`s why I love weather, and all that it implies.
