I have worked in optometry for almost 11 years, majority in optical settings. Apart from front lining, In addition, I also liaise in assisting to manage back end tasks. I also have the opportunity to be in charge of inventory and restocking for several brands in store. Throughout my years, I have also trained new employees in optical setting, fellow optometrists as well as ophthalmologist on using diagnostic products.
Role as application specialist in diagnostic instrument portfolio such as biometer, optical coherence tomography (OCT), perimeters and topographers. Moreover, as secondary role in supporting refraction and surgical portfolio namely phoropters, autorefractometers, slit lamps, dry eye solutions and more. Providing clinical training and follow-up training to doctors, technicians, and support staff. Creating training modules and training plans while offering remote and on-site clinical guidance and product support. Setting up and configuring devices and software as well as collaborating with IT/workflow specialists for system integration. Also assisting Technical Support and Field Engineers with troubleshooting when required. Staying updated on clinical application developments, latest studies and journals as well as reporting enhancement needs. Studying competitions’ products and markets need. In addition, to review new products for future collaboration such as myopia control lenses, ortho-K lenses and edging machine. Supporting instruments sales efforts through product demos, trade shows, and speaker of CME events such as a) Dry eye suite workshop for ECPs in Malaysia b) Refraction training week and Glaucoma training week for APAC distributors c) Dry eye workshop at Singapore Polytechnic d) Study of Choroidal Thickness in Myopic Children with Tam Anh Hospital, Vietnam e) OCT presentation for Himalayan Eye Hospital, Nepal f) OCT, fundus camera and refraction solution for Universal Eye Center, Taiwan g) Participated in MOF, MOSC, APGC, SOA, APVRS
Main role as internal trainer. To create guidelines and standard operation procedure for refraction as well as guidelines on customer service, upselling/cross selling, and new lenses via training, instructional videos and notes. Role as in-house brand lens specialist and trainer. Garner knowledge on in-house lens manufacturing, features and benefits as well as market comparison to ease staff in selling the lenses. To create modules to build confidence of in-house lens within staff as well as nurture customer confidence on the lenses. Creating lens catalogue. To provide in-house training a) For all staffs including branch managers, assistant branch managers, optometrists, opticians, eye care consultants as well as sales assistants. b) In works to provide HQ, office-based staff training as well, to instil better optical knowledge especially those new to the optical the industry. c) Provide own training materials from ground up in the form of Power-Point, Canva design and notes. d) Track training results with i. Incorporation of Google Form to access understanding from each trained subjects ii. Video submission of staff putting trained topics into work with rewards to top performers iii. Regularly monitoring their sales progress iv. To understand the problem faced by staff and provide necessary assistance to help improve training outcome To arrange external training liaise with partnership companies. To arrange training based on designation and topic suitability for different roles. Priorly arrange all trainings every quarterly to maximise staff attendance. Manage company charity drive. Managing all necessary arrangements such as location, staff, scheduling, grouping up to completion of the drive such as edging and dispensing of spectacles. To devise new selling tools to further enhance customer experience and increase staffs’ professionalism such as questionnaires and face shape to frame analysis tools
Role as senior optometrist and optical advisor. To advise on suitable glasses to lens type,facial features as well as eye power. In addition, to sell products based on monthly target and current lens promotion by supplier. To manage shop inventory. Replenish frames and stock lenses. To select new stock for frames. Directly liaise with frame and lens suppliers on matters such as delivery, invoices and etc. To handle time cards and book keeping of shop petty cash monthly. Assist in training new staff in a) Eye examination. To train them to use refraction instruments in store. To make sure they follow standard eye refraction flow. b) Frame adjustments for customers as well as pre adjustments for all new frames. c) To train them in brands background, frame materials and ways to handle different type of frame materials. d) Prepare guidelines and material on eye examination, optical instruments and edging. e) To teach them how to use perform lens edging for full frames and nylon frames. Also to ensure the outcome of lens chamfering is coherent to standard practice To handle government and associated agencies in sales application via KPDNHEP, Malaysia custom taxation related issue, KWSP and etc.
To assist ophthalmologist in refraction and perform OCT, Visual Field Test, Topography, tonometry and etc. To assess patient suitability for LASIK. To examine patient post LASIK. To help dispense medications.
