I am a respected financial advisor with experience in family offices for high net worth individuals and deep technical expertise in Canadian tax and a broad range of experience in corporate reorganizations, estates and trusts, and divestiture planning for Canadian corporations and their shareholders. Views expressed are my own
I led the Wilson Family Office and related entities in all matters relating to Canadian tax planning and compliance, including estate planning for the founders and their family. I participated in and led initiatives relating to the Wilson Group's investments in active private equity.
I created, researched and implemented tax planning opportunities for private corporations, their individual shareholders, and their families. My role demanded that I be able to communicate complicated tax plans both verbally and in writing to less tax-savvy clients. I provided tax compliance services to clients in disparate business sectors from real estate, aerospace maintenance, restaurants and hospitality. I coordinated and led tax strategy and technical sessions to develop new ideas for KPMG’s clients.
I was responsible for all tax matters relating to companies within the Jim Pattison Group as one of the two people at Corporate Office with specialized knowledge of taxation issues. I formulated long-term tax efficient corporate structures and plans for companies within Canada and the United States. I planned and implemented corporate reorganizations of Canadian companies. I also prepared and filed all Canadian tax compliance requirements, including researching issues arising during the preparation of over fifty Canadian corporate income tax returns. I negotiated with Canada Revenue Agency auditors on all Canadian tax audit and appeal matters.
