I am a lifelong journalist now serving as Deputy Editor & Politics Editor at The Conversation Canada, part of a thriving global news organization that publishes news analyses written by academics based on their areas of expertise. I also produce an array of content for a wide range of corporate clients, particularly in the financial services industry. This content includes op-eds, white papers, speeches, annual reports and website and social media material. I worked for almost three decades at The Canadian Press, a fast-paced, multi-platform national news organization, in a variety of editorial and managerial positions, including White House correspondent. My editing, newsroom know-how, content creation skills and speed are second to none.
I commission and edit news analyses written by some of Canada's most respected scholars on issues of national and international interest and importance. I arrange coverage of major upcoming events, including critical elections in both Canada and abroad, focusing on academic, peer-reviewed research on the issues at hand.
I created a wealth of content for company executives and for internal audiences.
I produce and oversee an array of content for Provident clients ranging from lengthy white papers to company blog posts, earned op-eds and codes of conduct. I also teach business and executive writing workshops, and produce a weekly, communications-focused newsletter. I work closely with clients to ensure the content I produce for them reflects their company's business objectives as well as their own personal voice as I help them become thought leaders in their areas of expertise.
Managed two of CP's busiest departments, supervising a staff of 21 people, assigning and editing stories, mentoring/training young staff and helping to shape the daily national news report for the company's hundreds of clients.
Reported mostly on labour market, social justice issues. Part of team that won a National Newspaper Award for coverage of the Parliament Hill shootings. Covered PMO trips to the Middle East, Europe and Asia, filing for multiple platforms.
White House correspondent reporting on American politics, including two presidential elections and two mid-term elections; reported on U.S. politics, Canada-U.S. issues, and covered breaking crime/social justice stories south of the border.
