Early in his carrier and after graduating from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - EPFL – (Lausanne, Switzerland) , Laurent has been participating in different structural projects starting with analysis at the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Barcelona - Spain- applying and developing structural software. Following a Master Degree at the University of California – Berkeley - he joined T.Y. Lin International, a recognized long span bridge design company where he has participated in the design of numerous long span bridges, before joining Arup in 2002. Laurent has first joined Arup for complex and multidisciplinary building projects before developing heavy infrastructure projects. Laurent has been on assignment to Arup Netherlands (Amsterdam) as Deputy Bridge Leader from March 2011 to December 2012. Since then, he is leading the Bridge and Civil Structures business of Infrastructure practice in Spain. Laurent is fluent in several languages such as French and Spanish (Mother tongue), English (high level with seven (7) years in USA, Portuguese (medium-high level with ten (10) years in Brazil, and Italian (medium level with five (5) years in Switzerland) which will enable him to easily converse, empathize and communicate with all team members. Specialties: Considering his multicultural background and management skills on international multidisciplinary projects, Laurent is very well suited for the management and direction of large bridge projects.
Facing continuous technical changes (construction technology, construction material, material behavior – short- and long-term behavior, new analytical tools and development of twin models, reduction of carbon footprint, ...) has been a driver over my career while maintaining a close relationship with my Clients and Client´s objective. My technical knowledge is the result of a long-term learning journey, which has been mastered on continuous professional projects’ exposure, a clear awareness of the cutting-edge techniques and technology available in the market and an endless “out of the box” thinking. I´ve gained this exposure over my professional working performances in five (5) Continents and more importantly, the great Bridge Design Leaders that I had the opportunity to work hand in hand and to learnt from, over my professional career. I hold a Professional License in the States of California and Arizona (USA), Quebec (Canada), and Spain. In Switzerland, I hold Dipl. EPFL that allows me to practice Civil Engineering in the country. I am fluent in French and Spanish (Mother's tongue), English, and Portuguese, which some basic knowledge in Italian. What does Laurent most value in Business? First, to act with Integrity; being Honest and Trustful are the foremost core values, I´ve learned over the years. And yet, these core values do not come by themselves but are supported by other values such as Technical Competency and Capability, Respect, Openness, and Good Listener. Second, to focus on the objective; How many times when projects are not built? How many times when personal/political interest overshadows public and common interests?
