Met veel energie en verantwoordelijkheid werk ik als wethouder in Wassenaar aan gezonde gemeentefinanciën, een krachtig economisch klimaat, vitale sportverenigingen en regionale bereikbaarheid. Ik geloof in duidelijke keuzes, een betrouwbare overheid en ruimte voor initiatief vanuit de samenleving. Hiervoor werkte ik als plaatsvervangend consul-generaal in Atlanta (VS), waar ik Nederlandse bedrijven ondersteunde bij hun groei in de zuidelijke staten van de VS. Daarvoor coördineerde ik internationale migratievraagstukken bij het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en was ik fractievoorzitter van de VVD in Wassenaar.
As Deputy Consul General I am responsible for building, maintaining and strengthening the relations between the Netherlands and Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama. We work to build new partnerships, develop economic opportunities and represent the Netherlands.
I was political leader for the VVD party in the Council of the municipality of Wassenaar (city of 26.000 inhabitants). The Council of Wassenaar (21 seats) is responsible for all major decisions on traffic, real estate, social development, heath care, economic development and general affairs by voting on policy decisions and approving the annual budget of the municipality. It also provides oversight on all decisions taken by the Mayor and the responsible Aldermen. I was elected by preferential votes in March 2018 and lead the largest political party in Wassenaar which represents all citizens in the Municipality. I negotiated our coalition agreement 'Wassenaar responsible and independent' with other political parties and undertook various roles with the community to strengthen local government in my home town. Responsible for developing and strengthening our migration cooperation with North African countries, the Horn of Africa, Turkey and Silk Route countries. Migration cooperation entails working with on border management, return and readmission, root casus of migration and various. I advised the Minister for Migration and prepared outgoing visits to Nigeria and incoming visits of various high level delegation. In the EU, I participated on behalf of the Netherlands in the High Level Working Group on migration on various files of the EU Migration Pact and liaised with other EU Member States to improve our migration policies.
