As owner of my own medical transcription business I secured accounts for medical transcription, picked up transcription from each medical office, transcribed tapes, printed transcribed notes and delivered finished transcription back to each to medical office on a daily basis. In 2003, I switched my business to a fully online, digital transcription business, streamling the entire process. Switching to a fully digital system eliminated the need for tapes as well as drop off and pick up of transcription. I personally researched the equipment, made the purchase, and trained the medical professionals on how to use the equipment.
Coordinator SAVE (Sexual Assault Victim Examinations) with SAVE team nurse and local law enforcement. This was an "On Call" position, in which I mainly worked nights. Calls from local law enforcement would come in through a pager system, I would return call, get details of assault, coordinate the location and time of examination with the SAVE nurse and law enforcement. Once the examination location and time were set I would head to exam location to set up room and supplies for examination. During examination I was responsible for greeting patients and making them as comfortable as possible, helping them with changing and preparing for the examinations. I filled out examination paperwork for nurse, took notes and assisted her with the examination by labeling and sealing all evidence collected and prepping it for release to the FDLE lab. Proper chain of command and sterile procedures had to be followed to prevent contamination or question of evidence handling. I also went to several law enforcement facilities and gave them an introduction to SAVE and answered any questions they had regarding the exam process from beginning to end. I worked this job "on call" while running my medical transcription business.
Reviewed and prepared patient files for research appointment. Greet patients and explain appointment process. Gather and input research results into database and compile results after each patient visit. Compile research results for medical review board and grant applications. Answer phone in research lab, make patient appointments and call patients with appointment reminders. Set up monthly medical review meeting for lab and guest medical professionals. While at the Minneapolis Vascular Institute, I had a key role in setting up and coordinating the annual Twin Cities Vascular Conference, a three day conference involving top vascular physicians from around the country. My role included booking the space for the conference, booking guest speakers, planning and coordinating a healthy menu, organizing all print and slide materials for the conference, organizing a block of hotel suites for out of town guests, making sure all the final details of the conference ran smoothly and finally attending the conference to help coordinate details during the conference.
