About

I am an experienced curator, writer, and arts organizer with a passion for developing and sustaining collaborative, relationship-centered approaches to creative work. My deep investment in working collaboratively reflects my belief in the importance of recognizing and valuing interconnection and interdependence in creative work, by extension of the interconnection and interdependence between people and the natural world we share. Becoming a mother in 2020 has deepened my longstanding interests in the wisdom, history, and multiplicities of time held within and imprinted on bodies and emotions. These perspectives have often drawn me to the margins and the shadows to celebrate undervalued sources of wisdom, under-recognized creative practices, and less common perspectives on cultural production. I have advanced this ongoing work— gaining insights from many different kinds of collaborators along the way—through more than a decade of researching, writing, teaching, and producing cultural programming and exhibitions. I am currently part of the leadership team at the Minnesota Museum of American Art (the M). Before coming to the M, I served as Gallery Director at Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts where I helped to support the flourishing of artists with disabilities. I hold a PhD in Art History from the University of Minnesota and an MA in Arts and Cultural Management from Saint Mary’s University. My areas of specialization include contemporary art and critical theory with a focus on embodiment, affect, and materiality, as well as intersectional feminisms, and gender and performance studies. My writing has appeared in publications by Northwestern University Press, the Katherine E. Nash Gallery, University of Minnesota, in association with University of California Press, the Plains Art Museum (Fargo), Driscoll Babcock Galleries (New York), among others. I have lectured and participated in panels nationally and internationally, including at Northwestern University (Evanston), University of East Anglia (Norwich, UK), St. Catherine's University (St. Paul), York University (Toronto), The Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis).
