This externship involved being able to quickly research applicable laws during pressure situations, imagining creative solutions, and solving problems for individuals and organizations. I found that I was very engaged by this type of work and hope to continue along this path in the future. My duties for the City included: Legal writing: Legal memos, presentations, along with office actions. Drafted reports on legal opinions and drafted memoranda on current city litigation. Database experience in: WestLaw, LexusNexus, and Muni-code (to conduct file reviews of current and past litigation) Conducted legal research on: Support of using police body cameras in the local police force. Public use of city owned public Wi-Fi systems and addressed problems inherent in the use of those systems. City use of eminent domain actions. City fire code violations and fines. Minority contracting requirements and urban city development requirements. Involved quick and accurate legal research for emerging critical problems and found job satisfaction in this fast paced environment.
