One month with the IPB to discover more about the scope of research in parasitology in Central Africa, and opportunities for future collaborations.
I will complete an intercalated PhD at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR.) I will research mechanisms of anti-malarial drug resistance in low transmission settings using a variety of genetic tools and population-level epidemiological approaches with the pacific coast of Colombia as a focus.
Collecting and adapting patient isolates of P. falciparum into in vitro culture.
I researched the neural basis of locomotion in Drosophila using a variety of behavioural assays which I developed, and I also learnt to use Principle Component Analysis to analyse the data gathered. I was supported by the Balfour-Browne Trust Fund. This work is featured in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2021.06.002
Summer research project investigating the genetic basis and behavioural role of colour vision in Amphiprion in the Great Barrier Reef, also spending time at the Lizard Island Research Foundation. This work is featured in a paper accessible at https://doi.org/10.1093/gbe/evab184
