About

My background is a combination of senior and executive leadership in systems engineering and operations, HR, DEI and corporate responsibility, and social enterprise. No matter the industry space, what I do best is build strong relationships/partnerships and agile systems that magnify the effectiveness of people coming together to do good in the world. In that climate change is the greatest global threat to humanity today, I am committed to prioritizing climate action in what I do however I can. 💡 People-problem-solver: The types of problems, challenges, opportunities that most enliven me are often the most complex, i.e. those that involve facilitating a diversity of people towards shared ends. I love leading through facilitation, collaborating with, and inspiring people to do and be their best. ⚙️ Systems-oriented: My background and my natural inclination is to take a deeply root-cause, sustainable, and iteratively improving approach to tackling challenges/opportunities by designing and implementing principle-based systems that support desired behaviors with measurable and accountable efficiency and effectiveness in mind. 🚀 Builder/entrepreneurial: For a people- and systems-oriented person, I like to move quickly and decisively. I'm impatient with "ideas guys". I love actually building, developing, growing, evolving—actualizing real results and impact in real time. My experiences and qualifications include: • Building systems change from the ground up • Anti-performative corporate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion + Impact • Strategic people/HR leadership • Systems thinking and process design • Private equity, investor & key partner relations • Public speaking and teaching/instruction

  • Bench Accounting ()
    • Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
      Jul 2020 - Mar 2023 · 2 yrs 9 mos

Vancouver-based fintech company I built DEI & Impact across the business at Bench through designing and building 5 key areas: 1. Systems change through Business Partnership: Building and assessing our systems and assumptions for inequity by business-partnering at every level and in every area of the business—from product design to recruitment to performance metrics to governance and on. DEI wasn't simply an HR phenomenon. It applied to literally every part of Bench. 2. Education: Empowering leaders and teams to take full responsibility for driving DEI in their roles—not about an isolated DEI committee for the sake of optics and relinquishing responsibility. This supported by regular Training & Education for leadership and company-wide. 3. Belonging & Representation: Building a culture and environment that serves and supports folks with marginalized identities so they can show up as themselves at Bench everyday. This is about not just building inclusivity, but genuine belonging. This led to the highest Belonging score in the history of Bench (>90%), 7% to 35-40% women in Engineering juniors and seniors, and 35-46% women in senior leadership. 4. Sparking a movement of change: Tracking our successes, our failures, and our learnings. It was about not only changing Bench, but shaping the financial services sector on the whole. 5. DEI & Impact Team: I built a growing and evolving team of DEI business partners and practitioners, along with building the operational and analytics infrastructure to support. For quarterly updates on what was activated through the function, team, and culture I built, check out Bench's DEI page.
