The company had a suite of products for critical communications solution for healthcare. I was on the Rapid Response team that was dealing with customer issues. For every issue assigned to me I first had to collect all the necessary information from our support/PSG folks to get a better understanding of the problem and then to investigate, research, debug, try to reproduce the issue and see where the problem was. Once I knew the root cause I had to make configuration changes, code changes, run a SQL script, modify database data, suggest upgrading to a newer version and so on – anything that was needed to resolve the issue. To track progress I updated my issues every day by adding notes. I also took part in the creation of maintenance releases and helped update the release notes. The whole team had scrums every day to report what was done during the day, what would be done after scrum and issues/roadblocks were discussed with the other team members and the managers to assist each other. I didn’t have direct contact with the customers but communicated with support on a daily basis entirely in English. Languages, technologies and tools used: MS Visual Studio, SVN, Rally, C# and also some VB6 and VB.NET, services (REST, WCF, OData), ASP.NET, MVC, jQuery, iOS/Android, Java, Entity Framework, MS SQL Server, Oracle, Jenkins, WiX toolkit, Telerik controls.

My primary project was called ETAS and already existed at the time I was hired. It was used for keeping record of the work time, vacation and sick time of the employees in a company as well as for payroll processing. The project was a C# ASP.NET Web Forms application with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and MS SQL Server. My duties involved pretty much anything: implementing new features and improving on the existing ones, making the UI consistent and user-friendly, code optimization, bug fixing, testing and deployment. I removed deprecated HTML and moved it into CSS, made the pages standards-compliant and minimized browser rendering differences, introduced master pages, significantly improved the consistency of the user interface across all pages as it was a total mess, added payroll processing progress display, implemented plenty of new features such as work from home, customizable payroll rules, leave history and many more. I integrated jQuery into the project and added AJAX functionality which ETAS greatly lacked in. For example I removed traditional popup windows and replaced them with jQuery dialogs. Our customers were US law firms and I actively provided support and assistance. All communication was in English and in writing. A small C# .NET application existed that was executed on each user’s computer from within the logon and logoff scripts and registered the logon and logoff times of the employees. Another small C# .NET Windows Forms application was used by the employees to punch out (e.g. for lunch) and then back in. I supported, improved and extended these applications as necessary. Later on I combined these two applications into a single one which appeared and remained in the system tray area. It enabled the employees to easily punch in and out and monitor their daily punches. These three applications used a web service to perform their tasks. I also worked (alone) on a few other small-scale projects all for the US market.
