About

I realized when I was 10 that I had an eye for business, and I LOVED it. My father was looking at a property near our home that was run down, at a great price, and my little body ached with the opportunity to bring it back to life. My Dad passed on buying the house, and someone else took over my little 10-year-old's dream and turned it into a gorgeous lake-view home. When I was 18 and working at a crab house on the boardwalk in Ocean City, we were slow in the mornings. Who goes for all-you-can-eat crabs at 11 am? But our squeaky screen door in the back led to the pool area of the hotel right next to us. So I opened the bar when the manager was late, and started making and serving drinks poolside. The drawer had already pulled $250 by the time she showed up, I served drinks poolside all summer and 'got' my first bartending gig. Eventually, I started my own bar and grill with my husband at age 28. Our daughter was just 3 months old when we opened, and was in a sling as I poured proper Guinness pints for our hometown crowd in the up and coming area of Park Slope, Brooklyn. Our bar was one of the spots that put the Slope back on the map. As our family grew, we sold the bar, moved the kids and our dog to Costa Rica, and bought 2 businesses that I carefully grew over the next 7 years. Then the pandemic hit, all that closed, and we found ourselves back in NYC, taking care of older family. Until recently, I ran those 2 much smaller businesses overseas in my spare time, while working FT as an Account Executive in debt management. Now, I’m starting my new chapter as a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual, growing my own financial planning business with an amazing team of professionals here. I want to work with folks who might be scared of finance and think it’s too early or too late for them, and also educate people on how Money can work for them and not just the other way around. My goal is to start equalizing the divide of wealth in this country one person at a time. So if you’re uncomfortable talking about finances, talk to me. Tell me what you want your money to do for you, and we’ll see how we can make that happen.

  • Senior Account Executive at Century Consulting Services
    Dec 2021 - Dec 2024 · 3 yrs 1 mo

Prepare tailored, personal analysis for clients looking to take back control of their finances through various debt control options from personal loans to consolidation programs. I helped people avoid bankruptcy on a daily basis, and empower others on that path to see where they are headed and steer clear of excessive debt before it is too late. I provided a better understanding of how to keep a good credit profile moving forwards, and each client's options are tailored to them. Major challenges include correcting common misconceptions on credit scoring models, giving clients tools of their own to understand why credit card companies enable those misconceptions, and how to use that new knowledge to get out of debt and stay out of debt using less conventional ways. Budget analysis, financial evaluations, risk assessment, client engagement, calendar and pipeline management, mentoring new consultants.

Through remote staff meetings, conference calls, creating a team database to liaise with top tier NYC Management Companies, we were able to manage work flows, devise new and needed protocols during the pandemic, and streamline the process to minimize personal contact and count everyone in NY!

  • Bed and Breakfast Owner at Vista Valverde Luxury B&B and Real Estate
    May 2013 - Mar 2020 · 6 yrs 11 mos

I owned and ran a lovely company that I created by joining 2 local businesses - an ocean view B&B and a local Real Estate office. Over a course of 7 years (2013-2020) we grew the B&B into a luxury rental and boutique tour company for expats looking to move and buy property all over Costa Rica. I created the websites, social media and engagement, wrote blogs, created tour itineraries, all while running the rental property that included 4 houses and casitas on 9 acres of gardens plus a small sustainable farm.
