Back at the department where I did my graduation project. I am hired to be part of the Datacenter WAN team which is responsible for some generic Datacenter networks including the Datacenter CORE (MPLS, DCI infrastructure), Internet Connecting and Cloud Connecting networks. Besides this team there is a team for managing the hosting LAN platform and Services platform. Main projects: Did a major software upgrade of the Datactenter DCI infrastructure, this network serves as a Core layer for interconnecting many platforms and hosting services of KPN Zakelijke Markt and a MPLS access layer for connecting collocation customers in the KPN and NLDC data centers. 2nd big project was to replace all DCI Core routers on 6 KPN and NLDC data centers because of life-cycle-management, again very challenging because of the important function of this network, and customers who are depending on it.
Because of a big reorganization I decided to work at the KPN Managed-LAN department. This department manages LAN, WLAN and Datacenter networks for large enterprise customers in the Netherlands. The team I worked for is responsible for a couple of customers including a customer with a large campus network with 100+ locations including WLAN with a centralized WLC in the datacenter and Cisco ISE implemented. Also we managed two customers with not only a campus network but also a small datacenter network with Cisco Nexus 7000 and international sites supported by VPN connections.
After my graduation I was hired at KPN. KPN has a large Data Center infrastructure spread across the Netherlands. I was working on a wide range of internal and customer projects, for example: Datacenter network expansions: Expand existing datacenter networks to house new customers and to connect new customers (Distribution, Access Layer). Datacenter network migrations: Face out old networks by migrating them to more up-to-date infrastructures. Datacenter CORE operational management (proactive, reactive): Did operational management tasks for the datacenter interconnect MPLS infrastructure (DC-i). This includes reconfigure existing connections to restore redundancy, also there where some administration tasks to complete. Datacenter Interconnect infrastructure: Configure customer connections on the DC-i infrastructure. This includes P2P connection (VPWS), MP2MP connections (L2VPN, VPLS) and routed connections (L3VPN). I was part of a select group of colleagues called the “CORE Team”. This team is responsible for the Datacenter Interconnect MPLS infrastructure where all the Datacenter services rely on.
Beside my study I worked part-time at Mc Donald’s. I worked in the kitchen; I was head of the kitchen staff, we called that Production caller. I was also the kitchen crew trainer.
