I'm an English Language Teacher living in Tokyo, Japan. I am looking for full-time work at a University in Japan starting academic year 2021. I'm interested in teaching general English, academic skills, exam preparation and content based courses. I have taught at various universities, presented at conferences in Japan and overseas and had my articles published. I'm also interested in promoting English language learning in the community.
I teach academic writing both semesters. Writing genres include a one-sided argumentative essay, a two-sided argumentative essay and scientific procedures. Academic conventions such as academic register, referencing and writing abstracts are included in the syllabus
I taught a variety of in-house and contract classes. In-house I was responsible for teaching general and business English in addition to exam preparation. I was responsible for designing materials for a well-received series of 3 hour long advanced business culture lessons. Contract work involved teaching at various businesses and universities. I was based for one year at Tokyo Women’s Christian University teaching professional skills to undergraduates and general English and British culture to Alumni. One of my main responsibilities was teaching on the International Foundation Year Course (IFY) which prepares International students for study at degree level. I also taught on the Pre-sessional course designed to prepare students for post-graduate level study. I was the main teacher on the Study and Research Skills module in which students prepared an extended project on an area connected to their future studies. In addition to these main areas of teaching I also delivered regular six-hour lectures on areas of academic study to students currently studying at under and post-graduate level. These courses were on subjects such as dissertation and essay writing. I also lectured International students on British political history as part of their Degree study.
As a regular teacher, I was responsible for teaching various age groups in various sized classes. Using a variety of texts, I taught general, business and exam English. As senior teacher I was involved in observing and guiding other teachers alongside problem solving with the Japanese staff. In addition, I was responsible for organizing school social events and designing unique tailored courses for specific groups of students.
