Working at the intersection between sculpture, functional design, installation, printmaking and more recently, writing - I've almost 20 years experience as a practicing visual artist. Alongside exhibiting/producing my own work, I’ve a background working with other artists to plan, manage, fabricate, curate and install their works. Assisting in all aspects of exhibition making - and with a broad range of experiences employed by public institutions and agencies as an art handler/condition checker - I also regularly mentor and advise a wide variety of creative practitioners, providing professional development support to artists at all stages in their careers. I’m passionate about artist-led activity and peer-led support/research, having previously developed, project managed and secured funding to initiate numerous artist-run projects - enabling artists to make things happen for themselves as opposed to waiting for others to make things happen for them. Additionally to this, I’ve 15+ years experience working as a Lecturer, Associate Lecturer and Visiting Lecturer at many Universities and School’s of Art across the UK and also often work in consultancy roles with galleries and museums, companies and city councils to advise on artwork acquisition, interpretation, artist development and best practice in cultural policy and artist welfare.
"Growing up on a council estate at the edge of Liverpool, British artist Kevin Hunt (b.1983) draws from personal experiences and memories navigating lower-class architecture primarily designed by and for heterosexual, cisgendered individuals. Incorporating the materials, forms and language that surrounded him during his formative teenage years, he makes sculpture —which is often functional and/or repurposes the functional— from a queer and working class perspective. A colloquial use (or misuse) of language plays a key part in the artist's working process as artworks and projects often develop slowly over periods of time, researching on location and working site-responsively and/or often in residence — including recently in Trondheim, Norway with Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder and BABEL (2025—ongoing); Reims, France with FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (2024—2025); Aarhus, Denmark with Aarhus Billedkunstcenter (2022-2023); Plymouth, UK with KARST and MIRROR (2022) and Manchester, UK with PINK (2021-2022). Kevin was awarded the ‘Wal Pawb’ public art commission at Tŷ Pawb (Wrexham, Wales) in 2018/19 and 'BEWEME', a permanent architectural intervention at Hotel Maria Kapel (Hoorn, the Netherlands) has been installed within the social spaces of the institution since his residency there in 2019."
