About

I'm on a mission to make people feel more comfortable with getting weeknight dinners on the table and entertaining friends. Motivated by finding happy solutions for cooking for my family, I created The Mom 100 blog and my first cookbook, The Mom 100 Cookbook, which Cooking Light named one of the top 100 books of the past 25 years. Dinner Solved followed, which Ina Garten called “A stunningly good book for busy parents.” I write the popular “Cooking on Deadline” column for the AP and am a frequent contributor to national publications and food forums. With my “friend hanging out with you in your kitchen” vibe, I regularly appear on radio, television, and streaming video such as NPR’s All Things Considered, The Today Show, Access Hollywood Live, and Craftsy.com. I also develop content and recipes for brands like World Market Cost Plus, GE Appliances, Nestlé, and Bob’s Red Mill. I've been on the board of City Harvest for 14 years and have been actively involved with Share our Strength for 26. I LOVE GETTING BEHIND BRANDS THAT EXCITE ME. I help select marketing partners connect with customers and new audiences in ways that are authentic for their brands. My clients value my compelling writing voice and the editorial and marketing sensibility I bring to every project. I started her career at Random House’s Clarkson Potter Imprint steering projects for companies like Tabasco, Stonyfield yogurt, and Pillsbury. IT'S JUST COOKING! My relaxed way of demystifying food and willingness to share things like what my boys really think of quinoa have made me a well-regarded and relatable influencer. I enjoy answering questions and providing encouragement and techniques to make my followers feel successful in the kitchen—in whatever form that takes. Although I won BlogHer’s Voices of the Year award and earned an IACP nomination, what’s most important to me is direct feedback like, "I made your chicken piccata, and now my mother-in-law looks at me with newfound respect!"

With all I do, I aim to make cooking and entertaining easier and pleasing to everyone—including the cook. My bread and butter is in partnering with brands to create original recipes, creative content, and marketing initiatives that appeal to their audiences. Each project benefits from my editorial and marketing background, insight into the food and parenting communities, and genuine passion for the brand. I've written a regular column for Cost Plus World Market, developed recipes for a cheese company in Wisconsin, and am helping a refrigerated dough company launch a new product. I recently developed meal kit recipes for one company and have a portfolio of others available for license. I’m the author of two cookbooks (Dinner Solved! and The Mom 100) that each feature 100 recipes that feature my original Fork-in-the-Road method of adapting one meal to suit a variety of tastes. I’m also the creator of TheMom100.com, a popular blog devoted to creating more joy—amidst real life—through food. As a food writer, I was honored to have a byline for 3 1/2 years writing the “Cooking on Deadline” column and now write "Kitchen Smarts" for the Associated Press. I’ve contributed to many online and print publications including, Food & Wine, Parents Magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray, Better Homes & Gardens, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, FoodNetwork.com, thekitchn.com, Food52.com, and TheSpruce.com. My friendly, chatty, irreverent style has generated a gratifying response from press and readers alike. I’m often asked to appear on food panels, video series, radio, and TV. I’ve been on NPR’s All Things Considered, The Today Show, Access Hollywood Live, and The Talk. My online cooking show (co-hosted with Robin Miller) on Blueprint.com recently launched with 10 short episodes.
