In this high demand position I was solely responsible for all surgical coordinating duties. I assisted the patients as soon as they left the exam room with the surgeon/Dr. I was responsible for helping the patient fully understand what the surgery was needed was for, what would be done from beginning to end of procedure, what to expect as in pain and healing time, restrictions before and after surgery, and cost of procedure. I verified each individuals health insurance by ICD 9 codes, applied for all prior authorizations when needed, then communicated with patient their insurance coverage and their out of pocket expenses. I was responsible for all receiving all payments in full prior to surgery, and also set up payment plan arrangements when needed. I coordinated all surgeries with multiple different surgical centers and/or hospitals. I prepared all paperwork for each individual and was responsible for making sure that all patient packets and documentation were correct and received by surgical centers in a timely manner prior to all surgery dates. I answered all phone calls in regards to surgery, and communicated with the doctor daily.
I worked side by side with the doctors and my supervisor in this fast-paced environment, ensuring all doctor’s orders were met in a timely manner. Primary responsibilities included pre-testing; additional testing ordered by the Doctor; explaining the test to the patient; third-party communication; scheduling appointments for patient referrals. Also responsible for assisting the doctors during procedures e.g., Punctal Plug insertion (temporary and permanent); Removal of foreign object in/on the cornea; Contact Lens fittings; dilation; dilation reversal; preparing the cameras for external photos and B-Scan; and opening all the electronic charts. Additional responsibilities: Stocking and organizing of the contact lens stock room, inventory management of stock lenses and patient lenses through WVA, contact lens inventory, contact lens solution inventory; receiving orders; dispensing orders; notifying patients when their contact lens were ready to be dispensed. In this highly visible position I was responsible for receiving payments which included cash, credit, and check transactions. I was responsible for the opening and closing count of the drawer for every shift worked, including the cash drawer, check amounts, and credit reports. Created new customer records and updated existing customer information in the store database, utilized a multi-line phone system to provide first line customer service and direct calls to the appropriate department, ensuring the best and most positive customer experience.
