Working alongside another paralegal I attended to all the formalities relevant to a busy IP department – specifically trade marks and designs; I also assisted in the preparation of filing trade mark oppositions; I attended to deadlines and dealt with post/faxes/emails and any queries raised by the fee earners with regard to designs and/or trade marks.
Responsible for training other formalities colleagues, I would ensure that the filing receipts, advertisements, certificates of registration were correctly processed and sent out to clients; also any other administration relating to the preparation, filing and maintenance of trade mark applications world-wide. This administration was carried out using the in-house computerised database (InProtech), via post and/or facsimile, email and the Internet. Daily communication with clients and/or associates was generally either by e-mail or post but also by telephone. I also monitored the diary system for approximately 10 fee earners and also for any formalities matters and checked and distributed the daily post and faxes.
