Inclusive Blue Wealth - Valuing Coastal Carbon Uptakes The thesis assesses the physical and monetary value of carbon sequestered by marine ecosystems in Exclusive Economic Zones at a global and national level. The carbon estimates of mangrove forests, salt marshes and seagrass meadows derived by species can store carbon for a long time and confirm the importance of healthy ecosystems in the fight against climate change. The carbon estimates are valued by the social cost of carbon. Whereas mean values of the TEEB ecosystem service valuation are used to derive the inclusive worth by ecosystem. The calculations for the Inclusive Blue Wealth Index, which is based on the natural capital accounting framework of the UN, requires an internationally accepted system to create incentives for sustainable ocean protection. The incorporation of marine resources in national accounting systems and the consideration of "blue carbon" in emissions trading systems is essential for marine and ocean protection .
