I led external communications for GSK’s Vaccines business in the UK, working closely with senior stakeholders in commercial and medical departments both in the UK and globally. I worked hand in hand with Government Affairs on delivering our vaccines narrative to a wide range of external audiences. In this role I was responsible for development and implementation of disease awareness campaigns, crisis management, media relations, social and digital media, patient advocacy group management, strategy development and product launch activity. I was responsible for the development and delivery of the Tackle Meningitis campaign which partnered with former England Rugby player, Matt Dawson to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis. This campaign also engaged with parenting bloggers which was a first for GSK.
In this role I was responsible for the development and delivery of internal communications in the UK Pharma business. Development of the internal communication strategy, channel management and providing a consultative service to the business, all formed part of my role, which saw me reporting directly into the UK Management Team and working closely with the GM to support Exec Comms. I worked across the whole business with a particular focus on strengthening an ethos of ‘one business’ and building engagement and understanding around key initiatives – an exciting challenge given the split of field/office based teams and the differing needs/opportunities that these populations have. I led on the development of our digital channels, integrating platforms, including Yammer, to support employee collaboration. I have spoken at numerous events/forums on this activity and advancing and embedding employee connectivity is something which remains an interest to me.
I was honoured to hold the position of JCI UK National President in 2014. As part of my role I worked with the JCI UK National Board to develop the long term strategic plan for JCI UK, an organisation that is nearly 100 years old with members across the globe. I supported the national network of JCI chapters, especially the network of Local Presidents. I am also a JCI Trainer and provide training internationally on a range of topics including communications, personal branding, social media and leadership. As part of my role, I represented JCI UK internationally at summits and conferences across the world, working with other national boards to strengthen the national and international organisations.
