Sexual Offence Research Leader: o Appointed Leader and coordinator of the Sexual Offence Themes Research Project student team o Undertook a review regarding common themes emerging from sexual offence cases where there may be a potential miscarriage of justice, that was published in FACT (False Allegations against Carers and Teachers, and other professionals) magazine (Spring edition, 2022) and on the Justice Gap website o Invited as guest speakers to present our findings at FACT spring conference in Birmingham, where myself and two team members delivered a presentation on the main themes that emerged from our research to the FACT committee, lawyers, Academics, those claiming to be falsely accused and other guest speakers including former MP Harvey Proctor o Won the National Law Works Attorney General Pro Bono Award for Best Team of Students o Examined causes of miscarriages of justice and the criminal appeal system o Introduced to issues in case investigations such as witness evidence, forensic evidence and police investigation o Completed investigatory reports and case analyses of real-life active criminal cases o Organised weekly meetings on zoom, briefed the research team o Delivered presentations to the team on case progression and future goals Casework Leader: o Appointed leader of a student casework team o Analysed and reviewed case documents, in cases where an individual maintains their innocence, with the objective of bringing an appeal or completing a CCRC application o Liaised where appropriate and possible with a range of experts in the field, including appeal lawyers, forensic scientists, and other relevant experts o Produced interim reports and prepared CCRC applications o Organised weekly team meetings to discuss findings and delegate new actions o Organised and listened to guest speakers, including those involved in the case such as defendants and witnesses o Provided support and advice to team members, aided them with any queries or concerns
Summer 2022 – Innocence Project Summer Caseworker with Cardiff University’s School of Law & Politics o Undertook casework on a range of active cases o Produced case summaries and overviews, analysing the defence and prosecution arguments o Completed interim reports on ongoing case reviews, highlighting potential grounds for appeal o Transcribed interviews and conference meetings between barrister, solicitor, and defendant o Created a Casework team leader handbook and activity session for future team leader training, which I, along with a staff member delivered to students o Completed admin tasks, organised files and documents, indexed files and legal documents
