I enjoy working for PMA / MetalForming Magazine: editing, content creating, storytelling, interviewing, and moderating live events related to metal forming, stamping, and metal fabricating. I could tell you about the topics I have covered—metal forming, stamping, fabricating, and other manufacturing; building construction and architecture; EVs and automotive; renewable energy and sustainability—but what may intrigue you more are the articles, blogs, videos, and events that I’ve created and engaged in about: the sweat, tears, and sleeplessness that went into every step in the making of the great, seamless Cloud Gate (Bean) sculpture; how companies have rebuilt after devastating plant fires; the company leaders who determined that every single material that exited their plants was to be recycled or reused because they felt that anything less would be faking it; the Mom-and-Pop manufacturers who put everything they owned on the line to build their companies and sustain it for future generations, knowing that they could enjoy success or lose everything; owners who converted their companies to employee-owned (ESOPs) to improve the lives of their community; the breweries that have managed to capture and reuse nearly all of the energy they expend; the manufacturers whose steadfast commitment to their employees’ safety has resulted in years of zero workplace accidents; the teen mom who became one of the few managers of a large stamping press department; and the company managers who transformed the culture of their entire communities with their sustainable plant initiatives; because behind every business, building, structure, and sustainability initiative are the stories of the people who, through perseverance, drive, vision, hard work, dedication, and love produced the exceptional, developed co-beneficial working relationships, grew very smart, and overcame adversity to accomplish the impossible.
I have moved into a new role at MetalForming as Contributing Editor. I'll continue to byline articles, columns and video interviews on metal forming, stamping, and fabricating technologies and the fascinating companies actualizing them, while freed up to pursue other intriguing topics and stories.
As STAMPING Journal® Editor, I was responsible for the overall editorial content and quality of the publication in North America devoted to providing information to the metal stamping manufacturing industry, which supplies components and subassemblies to the automotive, medical, aerospace, agricultural, retail, electronics and home furnishings industries. I also wrote industry blogs, e-newsletter commentaries, and social media posts.
As Editor of Sustainable Manufacturer Network, a media brand and professional organization, I was responsible for the editorial content of our monthly digital e-zine, and website postings. Our Network's mission was to help manufacturers put sustainability to work in their plants and operations.
