Head of Communications, (May 2013 to date) The IGA is the charity for people with glaucoma. It raises awareness of the condition, supports patients and funds research. My role was to support the part-time Chief Executive and to develop a three-year strategic plan (2015 to 2018). Directed and implemented strategic communication activity. Led on corporate relationships and effectively advocated and lobbied for improving patient services. Worked with a small team of dedicated staff and professionals to place the patient/beneficiary at the heart of all activity. Integrated fundraising into the organisation and helped to develop multiple income strands and meet annual targets. • Led on corporate partnership with Vision Express (since 2015) and Specsavers (since 2016). Increased the value of Specsavers partnership from £800k to £1m. • Developed a long-term, productive relationship with the DVLA (since 2013) which both supports people with glaucoma and now highlights the need for regular eye health checks). • Developed impactful campaigns to support at risk groups and educate people with glaucoma about compliance with treatments: • Positioned the IGA as a critical friend in responding to calls for evidence into the DVLA by the Parliamentary Ombudsman. Worked collaboratively with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, RNIB, Macular Society to promote recommendations to improve services.. • Oversee, manage and implement all press, social media, marketing, events and patient information.[@Tweetiga, Facebook]. • Editor of the IGA News quarterly magazine for our 4,500 members which focuses on opinion pieces from leading consultants, political and industry news and provides a mechanism for readers to become involved in research and included stories from our members.
