Currently in my 2nd year at the University of Bath, I am studying for a BEng in Computer Systems Engineering with an Industrial Placement. I achieved a first-class grade in my 1st year. Averaging 74% across my modules where I particular enjoyed studying communication systems and microprocessors. Going into 2nd year, I hope to advance my understanding in all areas while looking for a chance to spend my next year doing an industrial placement.
I joined Cerner Healthcare and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust as a member of the floorwalker team tasked with facilitating the deployment of a new Cerner software system. This initiative aimed to replace paper-based systems, enhancing efficiency and reducing errors across the trust. Commencing in July, I underwent training to become highly sufficent using the new system, ensuring comprehensive knowledge for effective support during the go live starting in late August. Positioned within the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at one of the hospitals, I played a pivotal role in assisting staff during the initial weeks of system implementation. Transitioning to 12-hour shifts covering all hours of the day, our team provided continuous support to address inquiries and troubleshoot issues promptly. Working in the high-pressure HDU environment demanded quick problem-solving skills and the ability to stay composed in critical situations. During my employment with Cerner, I was able to elevate my proficiency in several areas. Within a month, I achieved a high level of expertise in the software system, enabling me to effectively teach others. The experience enhanced my capacity to work extended hours in high-pressure conditions and sharpened my active listening and communication skills when interacting with staff members. This opportunity not only allowed me to contribute to the successful deployment of advanced technology but also provided invaluable professional growth, making it a fulfilling and enriching experience.
