About

Jürg Oliver Straub, born 1954, is a Swiss biologist with a Dr phil summa cum laude from the University of Basle, Switzerland, attained in 1985. He started in the Environmental Protection Department of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd in Basle in 1987. From 1998 to 2019, he worked as the Environmental Risk Assessor in Roche Group Safety, Health and Environment Department, where he was responsible for Environmental Risk Assessments for Roche pharmaceuticals. He was also involved in investigating environmental issues for pharma and diagnostics productions at Roche. Oliver participated in international research programmes on fate, effects and risks of pharmaceuticals in the environment (PIE). He was the Roche member of the European pharma industry Task Force on PIE and a member of the EU/EFPIA-sponsored iPiE research programme on intelligence-led assessment of PIE. In November 2019, Oliver retired from Roche at the Swiss statutory age of 65. He is now offering his services and long-time experience in regulatory environmental risk assessment for pharmaceuticals as a consultant with ERA Competence ([email protected]). Oliver is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (London, UK) as well as a member of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC; Pensacola, Florida, USA and Brussels, Belgium).
