Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Whether you look at the supermarket, tram or bakery: payments are everywhere. In my role as Country Manager at Mastercard, I am motivated to make payments as simple, smart and accessible as possible, together with our team of experts and partners. That is what I am most passionate about: making a tangible difference in people’s daily lives and changing something for the better. In my personal life, I am a husband and father, fervent documentary watcher, history enthusiast and hockey coach.
As Country Manager for the Netherlands and Iceland, I am responsible for Mastercard’s business and team in both countries. I develop and lead the local strategy, market development, and stakeholder engagement across these markets, working closely with regional and global teams to align local priorities with Mastercard’s broader strategy. In my role, I focus on building strong partnerships with financial institutions, merchants, fintechs, corporates, and public‑sector stakeholders, with the goal of advancing secure, innovative, and inclusive solutions that strengthen the local economy.
As Country Manager I am overall responsible for Mastercard’s team and business in the Netherlands with the ambition to make payments as safe, simple, smart and accessible as possible. Every year the Dutch population pays over 7 billion times in physical stores and online. Most of these transactions are done with a card (in physical stores almost 80%) and almost half of them done with a mobile wallet like Apple or Google Pay. With our brands Maestro and Mastercard, we facilitate these transactions. We do this together with banks, acquirers, PSP’s and other payment institutions. We not only partner with them around our payment solutions, but also offer them all kinds of services to fuel innovation, increase loyalty, optimize operations, reduce fraud and develop payment strategies. We also partner with governments, retailers and other stakeholders to continuously improve the efficiency of the Dutch payment ecosystem
As a member of the Management Team of Mastercard the Netherlands, I was leading the team of account managers who are overall responsible for Mastercard’s sales and relationship management of Dutch clients (primarily banks). My role was not only about management, but also about closely working together with my team and my clients to continuous bring added value and new innovations to the market.
