Market Activation for Ports as Clean Energy Hubs | Senior Advisor, Green Ports Forum, C40 Cities | Governance, Partnerships & Investment Ecosystems | Board Director, financial services

Squamish, British Columbia, Canada

About

Ports are becoming critical gateways for the clean energy transition, and the market needs stronger coordination between cities, ports, fuel producers, investors, and project developers. My current focus is evolving the Green Ports Forum toward its next phase: a “ports as clean energy hubs” market activation platform, that can help turn fragmented maritime decarbonization activity into investable opportunities. The goal is practical: help ports and cities move from ambition to implementation by creating the governance, partnerships, project pipelines, capital pathways, and operating models needed to accelerate investment in clean fuels, zero-emission infrastructure, and a clean energy transition. I’m especially interested in connecting with funders, financial institutions, infrastructure investors, clean fuel producers, project developers, and implementation partners looking to fund, pilot, or finance practical solutions. I came to this work through a lifelong interest in how economies, infrastructure, and institutions shape prosperity. Long before I worked in climate and economic transition, I spent years travelling the world. It remains one of the best educations I’ve had, deepening my curiosity about different cultures, languages, and the ways societies organize themselves. Over the past three decades, I’ve worked across climate action, economic development, governance, sustainable finance, and international partnership-building, bringing together governments, industry, financial institutions, and civil society to move complex systems from strategy to execution. My work has included leading Vancouver’s Green Economy Strategy, contributing to the doubling of the city’s green jobs and attracting more than $2 billion in clean investment; helping establish InBC, a $500 million public impact investment fund; strengthening climate governance capability for boards and institutional leaders across Canada; serving on the board of Canada's largest credit union, and leading the strategy and evolution of the Green Ports Forum, a global platform bringing together dozens of leading cities and port authorities to accelerate maritime decarbonization. The biggest barrier to climate action isn’t technology, or even finance. It’s market activation. The challenge is creating the confidence, coordination, demand signals, and capital structures that allow investment to move at the pace and scale required.
