Professor Juliano Denicol is the Director of the Megaproject Delivery Centre at University College London and the Founding Director of the UCL MBA Major Infrastructure Delivery. He is the Global Head of the Megaprojects Special Interest Group (SIG) at the International Project Management Association (IPMA). As Global Head of the IPMA Megaprojects SIG, Juliano coordinates a global platform with more than 70 countries to advance our understanding of megaproject delivery. He is the founder and director of the IPMA-UCL The Megaproject CEO, a global platform to discuss practices with leading megaproject CEOs. The Megaproject Delivery Centre develops research to change the way we think about the delivery of major infrastructure projects. Professor Denicol’s research attracted partnerships with world leading organisations, including: the OECD, one of the world’s leading think-tanks in infrastructure; and AECOM, a Fortune 500 firm ranked number one by Fortune as the world’s most admired company in the construction industry. His research attracted media coverage, including mainstream outlets (Financial Times, Daily Mail, The Tribune) and the trade press (Engineering News Record, New Civil Engineer). The research has been included in multiple written submissions of evidence to the UK Parliament, and used by several firms and institutions to advance infrastructure topics, including: the OECD, International Olympic Committee, Infrastructure and Projects Authority, and the National Infrastructure Commission. Juliano is the founder and director of the IPMA Megaprojects Book Club, a global platform of events to discuss concepts and practices with leading megaproject authors. IPMA is a federation of more than 70 Member Associations (MAs). Our MAs develop project management competences in their geographic areas of influence, interacting with thousands of practitioners and developing relationships with corporations, government agencies, universities and colleges, as well as training organizations and consulting companies.
Co-Investigator of Project X, a major research project (£1.1m) that aims to improve major project delivery in the UK, established by nine universities in collaboration with the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA), and the Cabinet Office.
Advised the European Commission and led the publication of the Compendium of Large Infrastructure Projects, a study of procurement procedures in over 80 large infrastructure projects across the European Union from 2008 to 2018.
Directed a research project funded by the Project Management Institute about the performance of megaprojects. Led the publication of the world's largest systematic review of the megaproject management literature, in which over 6,000 scientific papers were analyzed to identify 18 causes and 54 solutions to address poor megaproject performance.
