Promoting the use of TU Delft Library's digital special collections in research and education through the development of open source tools with open standards, the initiation of digital scholarship projects and the presentation of results, in both local exhibitions and (inter)national networks. My work is focussed on the implementation, usage and extension of the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), a set of standards that ease access to digital image assets across institutions. Together with Bert Spaan, I founded Allmaps in 2020, a platform for curating, georeferencing and exploring digitised maps that are available through the specifications of IIIF. Further development of the Allmaps Viewer was funded by Stichting Pica in 2022-23 as part of a larger project of the Dutch Digital Heritage Network. At TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, I initiated the use of Allmaps in education. Together with the company Digirati I'm developing tools for curating and presenting digital exhibitions composed of IIIF resources. These have been used to create digital editions of physical exhibitions, that were published on TU Delft's academic heritage portal. The tools aim to open up exhibition making to a wider audience–such as students and educators–and will become publicly available.
Responsible for the physical and digital presentation of the university's academic heritage. For physical presentations I designed a modular exhibition system in collaboration with Xylos Meubelmakers and Studio Mellegers van Dam. For the digital presentation, I developed a website based on the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) in collaboration with Digirati.
Guest teacher within the master's programme of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. Most recently (fall 2016) I taught the following courses: the lecture series 'Philosophy of the Image and Architecture' standing in for Patrick Healy at the chair of Architecture Theory; the design studio 'Cast Courts' at the chair of Interiors Buildings Cities together with Caspar Frenken (and in collaboration with the Amsterdam Allard Pierson Museum); and the seminar 'The Tools of Architecture' at the chair of Methods and Analysis together with Robert Gorny.
At the School of Architecture and Building Engineering’s Chair of Architecture History Theory. The doctoral research provides the first comprehensive overview of Max Raphael’s writings on architecture.
Design tutor together with Caspar Frenken for the studio 'The Thermae of Coriovallum: The Presentation and Conservation of a Roman Ruin' about the future of the Thermenmuseum in Heerlen, The Netherlands.
At Bureau Europa, I curated the following exhibitions: 'Mansholt, Landscape in Perspective' (18 January – 20 April 2014), together with Saskia van Stein; and 'Design by Choice: The Origins of Mass Customization in Europe' (10 October 2015 – 17 January 2016) together with Axel Sowa (RWTH Aachen University).
