About

Juba Mashaba, the Cell C CPO, has more than 30 years of experience in developing people performance enhancement strategies and interventions, leading and executing organizational change processes as well as driving culture transformation. He has human resources operational and leadership experience, having headed the HR function in leading South African and global brands. He served as Group Executive Director at Aveng, responsible for a total workforce of 40 000 spread across 25 countries and successfully restructured it to a headcount of 12 000. Before that, he was HR Director at Arcelor-Mittal (SA) and PepsiCo International where he was awarded the MEA award for performance. At Arcelor-Mittal and PepsiCo he successfully managed post acquisition cultural alignment. He also has a strong track record in implementing relevant remuneration strategies to drive performance. Over the years he has successfully executed numerous organizational restructuring initiatives to reduce costs and to implement relevant fit-for-purpose operating models and organization structures. He has led the development and implementation of fit-for purpose operating models and organizational structures. His role extends beyond HR as he is also experienced in overseeing internal and external communication and reputation management, business strategy monitoring, Enterprise Risk and Compliance as well as BBBEE Compliance. Juba is also experienced in preparing and presenting submissions to Board Committees such as Remuneration, Nomination and Social & Ethics Board Committees. He also has experience in presenting to institutional Shareholders on investor roadshows. He is fascinated by technological developments and has embarked on an ambitious project to develop technical skills. His modus operandi is to continuously engage both managers and employees by outlining the value proposition of each of the HR initiatives, secure buy-in and empower line management to own and execute the people management agenda. His Motto is, “people management is the most important line management competence.” He believes that human resources management is the primary catalyst for driving organizational performance by ensuring the right people in the right roles led by an inspirational and aligned leadership team behind a clearly articulated business strategy. In his view, effective HR leadership is the key enabler to successful business strategy execution.
