Klerksdorp, North-West, South Africa
I am a recently graduated junior doctor from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, completing my mandatory two-year internship program in the rural North West Province at Klerksdorp Tshepong Hospital Complex. I am also enrolled part-time in a Master’s program in Clinical Epidemiology at Stellenbosch University. I view myself as a highly motivated, inquisitive, and creative individual with a broad base of interests. I have a passion for understanding the complexities of the human body and its forms and functions. I aim to use this knowledge innovatively to promote the current and future well-being of others. I strive to live a balanced life, enjoying the company of my family and friends, whilst being dedicated to my studies to achieve my career goals. I am future-orientated and hope to use my time, talents, and energy to improve systems and the lives of other people. My motto is Sogno di Volare meaning ‘I dream of flight’. In the context of health sciences, I believe that innovation is required to cross barriers in medicine and advance our approach to healing.
I completed my fifth-year elective internship in Neurosurgery at UZA in collaboration with the University of Antwerpen, working alongside Prof. Tomas Menovsky and his team. During the four-week rotation, I honed my clinical and surgical skills, participating in neurosurgical procedures, conducting patient consultations, and assisting in the neurological care unit. This experience provided valuable insights into the Belgian healthcare system and fuelled my passion for neurosurgery.
