Josh is an Architect with almost 20 years of experience in a variety of roles in architecture. Josh's current work focuses on the planning and design phase beginning in concept and carrying through construction documents. His work strives to bring planning, design and sustainability together to produce quality designs that perform well and provide relief to our environment. Josh is a licensed architect in the State of Texas, NCARB certified, and LEED AP BD+C Certified. He works both domestically and abroad on a variety of projects in K-12 and Higher Education and provides LEED certification services for a variety of projects and certification types. Josh served in a direct leadership role within the Austin studio, leading teams and clients through the design and construction process. He was primarily responsible for business development with clients, connecting their needs with the services offered by the local office and firm. This included design projects, planning services (including Bond Planning), and construction oversight. He lead the local teams through successful design projects and into construction, working alongside the project manager to align job roles on the projects and oversee the work delivered to the client.
Josh led the Architectural Planning Group for the Texas Buildings offices (Plano, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio). His work included projects in the Education, Commercial and Healthcare sectors. He provided leadership to all planning aspect of the architectural projects in the offices, including planning personnel, developing tools and resources, interviewing for project work, and serving on the leadership committee for our BC representing the planning group. He strove to lead an integrated design process to all of our projects bringing Planning, Design, and Interiors together to deliver well thought out design and craft. Josh also worked on select projects in a dual role as planner and design architect, taking clients through the planning aspects of the project including programming, visioning, master planning and conceptual design. He then followed up to work with project teams as the lead designer to carry out the thought and design through documentation.
Upon receiving his architecture license from the State of Texas, Josh moved into a Design Architect role within the Austin office. His daily work progressed into design responsibilities on various projects within Texas, the United States and China. During this time, Josh took a leadership role for the Student Life R+B (Research and Benchmarking) group. This role can to be following his involvement in the Sustainability R+B group. During his involvement, Josh helped develop and implement research on Post-Occupancy Survey's and has presented at a number of conferences for the AIA as well as the Texas Society of Architects. He also continued his work with the Stewardship team, providing a number of resources including developing an energy modeling policy and standard contract language for the firm as well as helping with the development and collection of building data for the 2030 Challenge for the AIA.
Josh worked extensively within the Austin studio in a number of roles ranging from design, sustainability, project management and project documents. As a developing architect, Josh provided a number of services to help shape his development into a Job Captain. Josh was involved on his projects from concept through construction in order to give him full exposure to the many aspects of architectural practice. He focused mostly in the design aspect, but also provide technical support for his project during documentation and construction. After 5 years with the firm, Josh returned to a school to pursue his Master's and continued to serve the firm by running Facility Assessments for the University of Houston, surveying over 7 million square feet and generating the reports for the project. He began his role in the Stewardship team in 2008, helping the firm develop tools for Sustainable Design and working with leadership to commit to the 2030 Challenge.
Josh served a one year term as the President of Student Government. His experiences during the tenure ranged from minor issues to major considerations, including tuition rates, the university grading system, development of a student activities fund, architectural design review of the Mavericks Activity Center, updating the Campus Master Plan, student scholarship selections, as well as approval of the budgets for the Student Service Fee. In addition, Josh was involved with University of Texas System as a student representative for UT-Arlington to the UT System Board of a Regents. At the same time Josh was serving as chapter President for the Arlington Chapter of Delta Upsilon, as well a member of the Board of Director's for Delta Upsilon International as a undergraduate representative.
