Jazz Cultural Theatre of Bilbao is located in a storefront that from 1956 to 2010 was a well known electrical supply shop in Bilbao. The process of converting it to what it is today, a center for education, research and spreading the word about jazz was truly challenging. This story together with the beautiful nocturnal illumination of the street inspired Joshua to compose “Las Luces de Bertendona” [you can watch the video in youtube], a piece included in his recent album “Manhattan Bilbao Jazz-Zubia”.
Jazz Cultural Theatre & Planeta Sostenible is an initiative of Jazz Cultural Theatre of Bilbao. We aim to raise awareness and create a common consciousness to improve the relationships between human beings and nature, currently so deteriorated that the self-regulation capacities of natural systems have collapsed. Our health, the health of all people, is intimately linked to the health of the planet. With our projects we want to contribute to increase the happiness rate of people and cities for a positive progress of the human being. Music, theater, poetry and dance are our voice to launch this message. Because the conservation of culture and the conservation of the environment is for us the same cause. Two fundamentals of life threatened by the negative consequences of globalization, speculation, and the abuse and misuse of technology. In action in the fight against climate change today more than ever. When the last international agreements on the environment to face climate change are in the spotlight, we have decided to take action before the problem of CO emisiones emissions and the health of our seas, rivers and oceans and act in a local to a global problem that concerns us.
The Basque Country, Euskadi, is a place where cultures, hospitality, unlimited creativity, innovation, and a latent and obvious love for jazz, for music in general, for dance, for traditions and for other artistic manifestation. Jazz Basque Country Productions, Creativity, Research & Spreading The Word About Jazz, intimately linked to the work of the Jazz Cultural Theater of Bilbao, was born as a particular creation laboratory with an integrating vocation for jazz, a universal language with ancestral roots that is ideal for bridges, talk, investigate and generate exchanges between people, countries and cities. It is a reflection of our experiences, of our multicultural Basque-New York family, it is a continuation of our own life.
