Young, Ambitious and Motivated to jump start my career in Quantity Surveying. Eat breath sleep construction since I was 13. Practically raised on a construction site. Ever since being a laborer I have wanted more. I have been blessed enough to have the best of both worlds, being on site in person to see the practicality of things (and of course the site Banta ) as well as being educated and inside the office. As you can see through my Experience I have slowly climbed the ladder to get to this point and don't plan on stopping anytime soon!
I have held this sales position for three years while pursuing my university studies. Although distinct from my construction background, this role has equipped me with valuable interpersonal and professional skills, such as effective customer engagement and sales techniques. Additionally, it has instilled a strong sense of discipline and dedication. For instance, I have prioritized work during peak seasons, including missing three consecutive Christmases with family, demonstrating my commitment to supporting the company's goals and operations.
During the summer of 2024, while returning from university, I rejoined my family business, which had grown significantly, acquiring an office and implementing a surveying software called 'Price a Job.' I was promoted to a more strategic role, stepping away from on-site work to focus on project management and planning. My responsibilities included: Assisting with tender processes Preparing project documentation Extracting measurements from technical drawings Generating detailed cost estimates based on measurements Developing programs of works for various projects This role allowed me to gain valuable experience in project planning, cost estimation, and the operational aspects of managing construction projects.
I worked at my small, family-run business where, as one of only three team members, I took on significant responsibilities. This role required long hours, dedication, and adaptability as I balanced my professional duties with pursuing a Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. I remained with the company until I transitioned to university, contributing to various projects over a two-year period, including: Landscaping Driveways Extensions Renovations Bathroom and kitchen installations During this time, I gained hands-on experience in a range of tasks, including: Block paving Basic bricklaying Mixing and pouring concrete Digging trenches Operating small excavators Painting and decorating Basic tiling and grouting This experience provided me with a strong foundation in practical construction skills and project execution, as well as an understanding of the demands of working in a small business environment.
During this time, I was pursuing my carpentry diploma and gaining practical experience amidst the onset of the lockdown. I contributed to a two-year, multimillion-pound renovation project of a six-bedroom home in Crystal Palace. By this stage, I had developed the skills and confidence to independently handle smaller tasks, with my responsibilities including: Installing insulation for walls and ceilings Securing plasterboard using screws Applying scrim to edges for finishing Preparing rooms for decoration Mixing materials for plasterers Dot-and-dabbing plasterboard Assisting with bathroom tiling This role further solidified my knowledge and proficiency in construction practices while working on a high-end residential project.
At this stage in my career, I had developed a foundational understanding of site operations and gained practical experience in various tasks, including: Constructing timber stud walls Pouring and excavating foundations Performing various types of demolition Internal decoration Below-ground drainage systems While I was still early in my career and worked under supervision, this role marked my involvement in a significant project: the redevelopment of 'The Fox Pub' in Enfield into a residential block. This major project involved the renovation of the pub and the construction of 54 flats over a five-year period. Although my direct contributions were limited, this experience provided me with invaluable insights into large-scale construction processes and the progression of a complex project from inception to completion.
