Loves Café is the most recent and infuential stop on Joe’s career which has boosted his skills as a manager beyond any of his expectations. Loves began over eight years ago as a small back street independent cafe that provided healthy freshly cooked meals. A year later when Joe joined the team it was already evolving into so much more. Through working directly with the owner and head chef, Joe helped guide her vision of loves into the little gem it is today. The award winning independent vegetarian cafe/music venue is the urban heart of Weston, emulating the vintage ‘living room’ aesthetic. Hosting music events and art house cinema nights with locally sourced award winning vegetarian food and the unique customer service, loves has become a community hub for many people in Weston and has been host to big musical acts such as mercury music prize winning Ben Ottewell (Gomez), the magic numbers and Sian Evans (kosheen). Loves has also become a very popular venue for private events such as weddings, birthdays etc.Since joining Loves, Joe has had a direct infuence on the evolution of the café, turning it from a Café Bistro to the thriving award winning music venue it is today. With his ideas and concepts he made positive changes to lead loves into a thriving popular business. While working in tandem with the owner to run all aspects of the business Joe experienced frst hand all the responsibilities and challenges of running a local independent business. As deputy manager, it was Joe’s responsibility to oversee the operations of the three separate bar/restaurants and the kitchen. Working directly with the general manager he would create staf polices to increase efciency and provide improved customers service and maintain day to day operations of the entire business.
As duty manager Joe was responsible for overseeing three separate bars, a restaurant area and a kitchen, ensuring smooth running of the establishment at all times. Due to an unexpected selling of the establishment he and the whole team were made redundant.
