General practice of law representing small businesses and individuals in real estate transactions, real estate tax appeals, trusts, and estates. In counseling clients, I lean on my40 years of experience in the legal profession and my 15 years as the Judge of the Essex County Surrogate's Court to provide cost effective legal solutions with a personal touch.
In my terms as Surrogate, I adjudicated wills and adminstrations. Additionally, I reviewed pleadings in the areas of probate, guardianships, accountings, incapacitated persons, and general estate litigations. I also oversaw adoptions, oversaw guardships of adults and minors, and performed marriages. In this capacity, I managed and lead a staff of as many as 27 employees and oversaw a budget in excess of one million dollars. I was fortunate enough to serve three consecutive five year terms in this position.
Prosecuted minor criminal offenses and traffic offenses before municipal judges. Negotiated plea bargains on a regular basis.
Reviewed and voted on municipal budgets. Proposed ordinances, zoning ordinances, and resolutions for the betterment of the community of West Orange. Liased with the community on pressing issues and engaged in community outreach. Was fortunate enough to be elected three times to the position by the voters of West Orange.
Advised the County legistlative body on government contracts. Handled litigation arising out of the operation of county government, on personnel matters, and budgeting issues. Counseled board members on proposed legislation. Oversaw the legal aspects of the County waste management plan.
