Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany
Having moved from England to Germany, I started working at Weatherford GmbH in September 2022 as part of the Tubular Running Services team. The role incorporates numerous disciplines, including liaising with various departments on the shop floor, resolving issues in the field and continually developing the whole product line to ensure Weatherford remains a leader in tubular operations worldwide.
Responsibilities included designing and developing new parts that were incorporated in existing and new air bearing spindles. Through the use of the software Inventor, I created 3D models of parts and assemblies and their corresponding drawings. The spindles were analysed using ANSYS and additional bespoke simulation software to optimise performance before testing and production. Along with designing new products, existing products would often be modified to accommodate the needs of a specific client. I was tasked with creating design change requests to highlight these changes before having them approved by the engineering, quality and manufacturing departments.
I tutored high school pupils at National 5 and Higher level in both Maths and Physics. Being self employed in this role, it was my responsibility to prepare all learning materials and tailor the content to the needs of the pupil. I strived to make the sessions as fun as and interactive as possible as this is conducive to good learning.
Having completed the PGDE training, I began my probation in a secondary school in Glasgow. I was assigned classes from S1 to S6 and given responsibilities such as: planning lessons, assigning and marking homework, requisitions from the technicians to do experimental work, writing pupil reports and so forth. I ran a circus workshop on Tuesday lunchtimes and also volunteered at the school breakfast club every Thursday morning.
From 2010 onwards, I worked for the ‘The Home Removals Company’, a furniture removals company based in Glasgow run by my brother. The business was established in 2008 and operates throughout the UK. Between university semesters dating from 2009-2014, I worked full-time, whether it be manual labour, conducting customer consultations, writing invoices or proposing new ideas that would be prosperous for the company. The experience allowed me to build other business management and teamwork skills I acquired from university.
