About

Hi 👋, I'm Jose! I love creating automations, new tools, and apps for internal teams to streamline processes. I'm passionate about security (check my blog below!). I have a strong coding background that allows me to get the most out of SaaS applications by using their APIs. I can implement SaaS applications at scale (20K+ employees), from Slack to G Suite, from Onelogin to Okta, etc. I love Puppet, Ansible and Terraform. I define myself as a software and systems engineer that loves working with SaaS applications or building their own. I wrote a few blog posts about my projects @ Yelp on the Yelp Engineering Blog - see the links below. I also participated as a speaker during the Atlassian Summit 2019 (presentation attached). I am motivated, driven and professional, a goal-oriented leader who knows how to get things done.

  • Senior Application Engineer - Corporate Infrastructure - at Yelp at Yelp
    Dec 2015 - Aug 2019 · 3 yrs 9 mos

As an Application Engineer, I was in charge of developing new and administering current internal applications that solve complex business needs. My core strengths lie in the following technologies/apps: Python, REST APIs, SAML, JavaScript, Puppet, Docker, Splunk, Jenkins, GIT, Jira, G Suite, Terraform, Selenium. I wrote a few blog posts about my projects @ Yelp on the Yelp Engineering Blog - see the links below. I also participated as a speaker during the Atlassian Summit 2019 (presentation attached). Here are some of the projects that I’ve worked on: • GSET → Developed a tool to mass delete emails (based on any query) from all employees' Gmail inboxes in seconds, allowing our security team to purge any phishing emails. This tool uses Python, Docker, Celery, Flask, Redis and is SSO compatible. This one of the core tool that Yelp security team uses to protect our employees from phishing attacks. • G Suite to Splunk → Built a framework to ingest hundreds of thousands of records per day using Google APIs into Splunk to gain insights into what’s happening with our G Suite environment. • Deployed Okta as the SSO solution to centralize logins for Yelp, enforced 2FA, and rolled out over 200+ SAML applications. Refactored existing internal tools to provide SAML 2.0 capabilities. • PII Drive scanner → Tool that scans all employees Drives + Team Drive looking for PII based on customizable regular expressions using the Google Drive API. • Developed and implemented automations for onboarding/offboarding employees. • Built custom API connectors using multiple languages in order to propagate data across multiple cloud applications (Oomnitza, Google, Workday, etc). • Developed a Selenium framework to test the performance and upgrades of our Jira and Confluence servers. • Developed multiple Chrome Extensions (custom AdBlock Plus version for +6K employees, GmailDOM injections, Chrome tracking). • A many more that I would love to talk about.
