Advisory on consumer finance start-ups, operations, product and risk management strategies for retail banks. In addition to the start-up of FINTECH business Jeitto and my continued involvement in Mokka, I have undertaken a number of business strategy and risk management consulting projects until 2015. These have been around the world, including in South America, Europe, Central Europe and Africa. They liberate the growth potential of retail banks in consumer finance in emerging markets by tackling issues such as poor customer history and lack of ID, regulatory weakness and poor legal frameworks. My selected achievements include: • Successfully building a high quality, Portugal-based consultancy team consulting to banks on risk management, leveraging my expertise. • Leading the entry strategy for Renaissance Credit Africa, launching in six months a rapidly growing business with strong risk management structures and very low delinquency rates. • For several retail banks in Russia, Romenia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and other Central Europe countries, reviewing risk management policies, improving the recovery of bad debts, introduced optimal collection strategies based on behavioural models, and boosting sustainable growth with robust score models and data analysis.
I was asked back by the Board to take a major role in its post financial crisis leadership. This was largely a risk management and strategic guidance position. My achievements included: • Successfully managed the company’s risk as it resumed rapid expansion in this emerging market, selling new products into a freshly expanding economy. • Achieved 40% growth, sustainably and without material, business threatening credit risk. • Rebuilt the company’s internal and technical capacity after the impact of the financial crisis, improving the quality of both its risk management infrastructure and human capability. • Started-up Renaissance Credit’s new Nigerian business, another start-up in an emerging market.

For the Kardan Private Equity Fund in the Netherlands, created a professional risk management infrastructure for banks in Russia, Ukraine. Romania and Bulgaria, leading to 20-35% reductions in NPLs and rapid, sustainable growth supported by state of the art decision making engines.
