About

Optical Imaging Engineering Technician supporting camera and lens engineering for autonomous vehicles and humanoid robot applications. I currently work with a cross-functional team developing the vision technology and hardware that will have a big impact on nearly everyone’s life in a few years time. Previously, I worked developing the most advanced digital holographic display in the industry. Previously I worked in developing, testing and supporting machine vision inspection systems for advanced high volume precision manufacturing. Prior to that I worked with high-end cinema lenses. You’ve probably seen a movie shot with a lens that I’ve taken completely apart and put back together. I have extensive knowledge in the following areas: Cameras, including area and line scan, visual, IR and UV. Optics, including high resolution, IR/UV, telecentric, hypercentric and microscopic lenses. Optical performance testing of lenses, including collimator alignment and focus, MTF measurement and reticle projection. Illumination sources, including ring, coaxial, bar and fiber-optic coupled, LED as well as globar, tungsten and xenon sources. One of my specialties is selecting and testing large high megapixel sensors and high performance lenses to achieve specific image quality targets. My work experience is extensive and interdisciplinary including optical performance optimization, working with imaging scientists and senior/staff engineers on prototype systems and process development and developing custom machine vision systems and optical test instruments. My skills include precision assembly of prototype systems, optical testing and calibration, design of fixtures and test equipment using SolidWorks 2025, CATIA and Fusion 360, precision non-contact meteorology using Micro-Vu and Keyence systems, data analysis and process documentation. My personal interests include everything from vintage analog still and cine cameras to digital cinema cameras, engineering to fine art, automobiles to spacecraft. Learning something new every day and trying do do what hasn't been done before, or do it better than it has ever been done before, are the aspects of my work that I find most stimulating.

  • Camera Engineering Technician at Tesla
    May 2025 - Present · 1 yr 2 mos

Member of the Camera Engineering Team supporting image quality testing and validation of camera systems across Tesla platforms, including Robotaxi, Cybercab, and Optimus humanoid robot programs. Primary point of contact for camera image quality lab operations. Responsibilities include developing and executing image and video quality tests, performing optical characterization of camera modules (MTF, flare, haze, stray light), and supporting prototype camera assembly, alignment, and validation. Design and build custom camera test fixtures, controlled lighting environments, and instrumentation to enable repeatable, high-fidelity measurements using Linux-based capture systems and optical test equipment. Own lab scheduling, equipment readiness, calibration, maintenance, and procurement, supporting cross-functional engineering teams with reliable test infrastructure and data.

  • Senior Engineering Technician at Light Field Lab, Inc.
    Oct 2023 - Mar 2025 · 1 yr 6 mos

Contributed to the development and assembly of the Gen. 3 SolidLight display, a gigapixel light field holographic system. Assisted principal mechanical, optical and prototyping engineers with with polymer PhaseGuide metrology, holographic phase array assembly, component testing, SolidLight system assembly, system calibration and troubleshooting. Developed procedures for assembly of sensitive components, improved component packaging and reliability and enhanced thermal management enhancing prototype reliability Reduced assembly time of the prototype displays from 5 days to 2 days.

  • Senior Engineering Technician at Tesla
    Feb 2022 - Oct 2023 · 1 yr 9 mos

Vision Systems Technician, Manufacturing Engineering Team responsible for process development of the 4680 battery, supporting the pilot production line and prototyping lab. Selected and tested and assembled equipment such as area/line scan cameras, confocal sensors and laser profilometers, illumination systems and mounting hardware. Conducted precision measurement of samples to support engineering trials using Structured Light and Video Microscopes. Captured and formatted engineering data to aid decision-making. Helped increase the cell PPM production rate. We were the first to achieve the 1000 car-sets per week milestone for 4680

  • Founder / Optical and Mechanical Design Engineer and Technician at CinemaTechnic
    Apr 2016 - Dec 2021 · 5 yrs 9 mos

CinemaTechnic has evolved into an imaging technology company combining science and engineering with art and design. My specialties are imaging lenses for machine vision and entertainment imaging and lens testing equipment. I help larger companies develop innovative new imaging products. I also manufacture and calibrate optical testing equipment for photographic and cinematographic lenses. Many professional cine rental houses in the U.S. and E.U. are now using my lens testing systems. In the future, I plan to explore computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems and more. http://www.cinematechnic.com/
