I am a 4th year PhD Candidate working in Dr. John Ussher's laboratory at the University of Alberta. I am interested in investigating and understanding novel pharmacotherapies for the management of diabetic cardiomyopathy. My expertise includes assessment of cardiac function using transthoracic ultrasound echocardiography, generation of transgenic and knockout mouse models and extensive experience with numerous molecular biology techniques commonly used in basic science research.
-Principal Investigator: Dr. John Ussher -Thesis dissertation is focused on understanding the cardiovascular biology of different proteins and their applications as pharmacotherapeutics in the setting of diabetic heart disease -Acquired specialized training in mouse genetics, transthoracic ultrasound echocardiography, cell culture and molecular biology techniques
-Principal Investigators: Dr. Jonathan Campbell and Dr. David A. D'Alessio -Worked on a 2-month project that aimed to optimize pancreatic pseudoislet generation for cell-specific viral transduction -Learned new molecular techniques such as mouse pancreatic islet cell isolation, fluorescence-activated cell sorting and pancreatic islet perifusion -This work was presented at Metabolic Physiology Meeting 2023 as a poster presentation
-Principal Investigator: Dr. John Ussher -Compiled and organized preliminary data pertaining to a novel research project related to sex differences in diabetic cardiomyopathy -Created figures and tables for this research project
-Helped dispense prescription medications and other medical products to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist -Prepared prescription medications by counting pills, labelling bottles, and compounding creams -Delivered prescription medications and medical supplies to elderly customers
