I am an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with almost seven years’ experience in genomic medicine, currently focused on inherited cancer predisposition testing, including NGS data interpretation, presymptomatic testing, EQA scoring and variant interpretation. My experience spans inherited cancer, acquired cancer fusion data analysis, cystic fibrosis screening and bespoke rare disease testing. I am also developing my expertise in pharmacogenomics, with a current focus on DPYD testing and its role in more personalised, patient-centred care. Alongside my diagnostic work, I support training and assessment for Scientific Training Programme trainees and have previously acted as a department CPD organiser. These roles have strengthened my communication, teaching and collaborative skills, while giving me a broad understanding of how high-quality genomic services are delivered within an evolving NHS landscape. I am particularly interested in roles where I can contribute to specialist genomic testing, rare disease and cancer pathways, service improvement, and the development of patient-centred genomic medicine. I am always looking to expand my knowledge and recently attended the 10th Joint Meeting of the UK/Dutch Clinical Genetics Societies in Maastricht, which further strengthened my interest in the future of clinical genetics and pharmacogenomics. Outside work, I enjoy keeping fit, climbing, travelling, playing D&D and trying new things. I also believe strongly in contributing to the community, from completing a charity skydive for The Prince’s Trust, to working as a community first responder and providing emergency ITU cover during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This position is refining pre-existing skills such as microtomy, Immunohistochemestry processing, collating data, maintaining accountability and investigatory skills. It is also developing my ability to anticipate and work towards the needs of clients, patients and other departments. I am currently being given further responsibilities including; investigating product no conformances, evaluating the procedure for retention of products for comparable accountability and acquiring information for use in product development at an alternative international site.
I worked part time as a Climbing Instructor to maintain a flexible source of income during my Masters degree.
