About

How do we use materials science to solve global environmental and health problems? I'm the CEO and cofounder of Folia Materials. Our patented coating technology transforms ordinary paper into a platform super material to replace plastic in billions of products. As CEO I've taken Folia from idea to a Seed stage company, with industrial manufacturing and Fortune 100 clients. Products made with our paper address low-cost universal access to clean drinking water, and paper-not-plastic food packaging. I have a Columbia PhD in earth and environmental engineering and was a Department of Energy scientist. I worked on global environmental problems: drinking water in Africa, grid-scale thermal energy storage, billion-tonne disposal of carbon dioxide *under* deep oceans, national-scale CO2 disposal, methane emissions, and deep sea oil/gas blowouts like Deepwater Horizon. http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=QKt44RMAAAAJ&hl

Folia Water Filters: a mass market grocery staple Dirty drinking water is the #1 cause of hospitalization in low-income countries and 1.2M deaths annually. Folia Water Global is taking a different business model approach to clean drinking water, leveraging grocery retail. Folia has invented a 20 cent-20 liter paper water filter using patented materials science. A roll of our industrially manufactured paper is 1 million liters of safe, germ-free drinking water. Our antimicrobial paper water filter is packaged like a coffee filter and sold at grocery pricing through local retail stores to BOP households. We're on sale in 2,500 stores in Bangladesh, selling B2B through FMCG grocery distributors. Folia Water Global is a subsidiary of Folia Materials.
